Our November Reads

Reading was one of the things that brought us together and reading is still strong in our friendship, even amidst the busyness of prepping for our beta launch, the holidays, and all the things!

We want to get more consistent in sharing our latest with you, our book and crafty friends, so that you might find your next read.

And so here is a peek into what we read in the month of November, plus our “you must read this one” recommendations!

From Wendy:

By the numbers:

  • Books read (November): 7

  • Average rating (November): 4.4 ⭐️

  • Pages read (November): ~2,200

  • Books read YTD: 78

  • Average rating YTD : 4.3 ⭐️

  • Pages read YTD: ~29,400

This was, as usual, a really varied group of books read this month. Overall, I’m really happy with my reading journey in November.

This month, I read:

Without a doubt, my favorite book this month was The Correspondent.
I cried big tears at the end of this one. You have to listen to it – audio is the only way to go. My cousin Becky recommended this to me and it was an amazing recommendation. It’s the account of fictional main character Sybil, who by all means has had a successful and full life. You explore her world through the incredible and vast correspondence she has sent through the years – from her close family and friends in beautifully-written letters to a young acquaintance she helps out and even emails to the local university and her eye doctor. You’ll be wondering how you actually measure a life and what is most important by the end of this. The last letter– ohhhh my gosh, I’m still thinking about it.

From Sarah:

By the numbers:

  • Books read (November): 6

  • Average rating (November): 4.0 ⭐️

  • Pages read (November): ~1,850

  • Books read YTD: 64

  • Average rating YTD : 4.0 ⭐️

  • Pages read YTD: ~I'll have to figure that out sometime 😂

Audio books kept me company this month on some longer drives (a.k.a. to visit Wendy in Maryland.)

This month, I read:

  • Atmosphere - 4.75⭐️, set in the 1980s as part of the NASA program and first women to take part in it; hidden romance and lots of thrilling action included

  • The Third Gilmore Girl - 3.25⭐️, the member of actress Kelly Bishop, who played the Emily Gilmore in The Gilmore Girls, and was in Dirty Dancing

  • Bad Summer People - 3.0⭐️, a mystery/thriller told from a wide variety of perspectives as residents of a Cape Cod like island experience their first murder; it brings the Drama (capital D intentional)

  • Never Thought I’d End Up Here - 4.0⭐️, a sweet young adult enemies to lovers romance that gives a peek into Chinese culture and family dynamics

  • The Unwedding - 4.75⭐️, a murder mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end; also Sarah's TBR Wheel spin #1

  • The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise - 4.25⭐️, Louise's family doesn't want her staying alone at home anymore, while Tanner is grieving the loss of her sports dreams at the hand of an accident. This unlikely pair become intertwined in a wild adventure as secrets are revealed

My top recommendation from this month's reads? The Unwedding
Yes, Atmosphere was wonderful and it has won a top spot on Audible and Goodreads already, so I want to give you a recommendation that is less known. You can watch my recap of the book in our TBR Wheel spin recap, but if you like a good mystery book and characters that have depth, you should check out The Unwedding by Allie Condie. As her debut thriller, Condie does a wonderful job of keeping you engaged and guessing about the murder and the characters all the way until the very end.
